It’s the one year anniversary of the formation of the River of Lights Committee!
In March 2023, a group of volunteers came together to form the River of Lights committee. These passionate individuals had a powerful mission: to beautify and uplift downtown Wallaceburg, specifically during the winter holidays. The aim was to create a welcoming environment that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come. The River of Lights committee is determined to transform Downtown Wallaceburg into a vibrant and thriving hub that everyone can be proud of.
In 2023, the committee put a call out for artist submissions so they could have local artwork displayed on banners downtown. The artwork received was beautiful, and was turned into 13 winter themed banners that the community have enjoyed all season.
In 2024, the River of Lights is fundraising to add 15 additional banners featuring local artists. Artists interested in participating should submit a digital image of their piece, along with its title and an artist statement by August 31, 2024 to river.of.lights.wallaceburg@gmail.com.
The committee is also raising funds for at least 20 custom made light pole decorations. The custom pole decorations are being made locally by Schepens Ltd, and there is currently one installed on James St.
