The Downtown Wallaceburg BIA has full time opening for a Coordinator & Promotions Manager. The position in Wallaceburg will start as soon as possible

Job Description

The Coordinator works closely with the BIA Board of Directors, employees, community partners and volunteers to raise the profile of downtown Wallaceburg through community building, events and beautification.

Essential Functions 

Administer to all the communications of the Downtown Wallaceburg BIA

Planning and executing events downtown.

Managing paperwork for special event permits, and coordinating vendors and volunteers.

Overseeing kayak rental kiosk and assisting with rentals.

Overseeing and facilitating the care of downtown gardens.

Social media and website content.

Supervise the summer student employment program.

Grant writing and funding applications.

Job Specifications  

Preference will be given to applicants that are pursuing a career in marketing, event management or business administration. 

Proficiency in Microsoft is an asset.

Experience and working knowledge Meta Business Suite is an asset

Experience providing customer service and working with community and special events, an asset. 

Experience with Canva is an asset.

Kayaking experience is an asset.

Prior managerial experience an asset.

Work environment/hours of work:

This position works indoors and outdoors. 

This position works weekday, evenings and weekend hours. 

Essential physical and/or safety requirements 

Because of the responsibilities of this position, applicants are required to be physically fit and enjoy working outdoors. While the position is largely administrative we do own and operate a kayak shop and employ summer students as kayak attendants and landscape gardeners who answer to the successful applicant. 

Walking: frequent walking on level surface, rough surface (walking in parks; facilities; debris pick up, light horticultural work, special events, parks checks, equipment checks) 

Reaching: frequent lifting below shoulder, forward, handling (very light horticultural work, sweeping, special event set up and tear down, moving kayaks) 

Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (moving kayaks, debris pick up, special event set up and take down) 

Sitting: sitting for long periods (computer & administrative work)

Hands: constant gripping (up to 9.09 kgs or 20 lbs) (computer work, light horticultural work, lifting kayaks, debris pick up) 

Foot action: frequent two-foot action (raking, weeding, driving) 

Driver’s license/vehicle requirements 

Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G or G2 Ontario driver’s license; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. An acceptable driver’s abstract will: be an original document and current (within the previous thirty (30) days); have no more than four (4) demerit points; have no more than two (2) convictions for the same offence; have no criminal code convictions; have no ‘non-medical or administrative’ license suspension in the preceding three (3) years; because this position may be required to drive their own vehicle, a reliable vehicle is also required.
