Many local residents have noticed the increased activity and work being done around the walking bridge. An update received from the municipality indicated that the completion date of the project is still on track for July, ahead of WAMBO this summer. The Sydenham River continues to remain open and passable throughout construction. The contractor is coordinating their work to maintain a navigational opening through the construction area at all times during the Navigation Season (which begins on May 15th) and in accordance with approvals through Transport Canada.
The contractor has been removing bridge spans and doing minor concrete work on site, as well as steel fabrication at their shop. The new steel deck panels for the bridge have been fabricated and will be arriving in the next few weeks.
There has also been some work done to mock up the LED accent lighting on the existing lift span. We are excited to see the final product illuminate the Sydenham River at night in the future.
Going forward, concrete work will continue on the piers, and work is being scheduled for the installation of the new electrical feed for the bridge and lighting system.
Installation of the coloured lighting system is occurring as part of the overall site construction work this spring, however there are several steps to commissioning the lighting system and the programming components. The target is to have the lighting components activated in early Fall this year.
